日本について話すといつも良い点に集中しようとする。アメリカよりたくさんあるから、あそこじゃなくてここに住んでいる。
でもこの旅にアメリカが勝っているところを見つけたと思う。
以外とアメリカのおもてなし。
Whenever I talk about Japan, I try to focus on the good things. I think there are more than in America and that's why I live here rather than there.
But this time I think I found something that was better in America.
Surprisingly, the service.
アメリカのおもてなしは有名ではない。私は何回、何回もがっかりとイライラさせられた。
10年前にパソコントレーニングのために、日本人の先輩と一緒にワシントンDCに行った。
最初の夜には、バーガーキングに行って、店員が私達の注文を受けようとしなかった。なぜならば友達と携帯で電話中だったから。アメリカ人として本当に恥ずかしかった。
America is not famous for service. I've been frustrated and annoyed many, many times.
10 years ago I went to Washington D.C. for some training with my Japanese coworker. I remember going to Burger King and the man at the counter was talking on his cell phone when he should have been taking our order. I felt embarrassed to be an American.
だが。。。先週西海岸に行く後、全く反対の状況を見つけて、やっと落ち付ける事ができる。
まさに違う国の感じがした。
But...after traveling to the west coast I felt much better to find a place that was the opposite.
I felt like it was a completely different country.
各レストラン、各店、各ガソリンスタンドには、笑顔していたフレンドリーなスタッフがいた。
全ての手伝ってくれた店員は注文より会話をした。全員は一生懸命頑張っていたわけないけど、みんなが優しかった。どこに行っても昔の友達と話しているように感じた。
Every restaurant, every store, every gas station had smiling, friendly people. Every single person that served us spoke to us beyond just taking our orders. Not everyone seemed to be working super hard, but everyone was very friendly. It was like talking to old friends everywhere we went.
電車で車掌は私の名前を知って気軽くに使って、私の目的地に着いたら起こすと提供した。
アイスやさんには、店員が私のアイスを目の前に持って、逆さまにして、狂っているおばあさんみたいに目線をした。私のショックの顔を見たら、爆笑った。
ホテルには、私はチェックインした時元軍人の証明書を使って、そのホテルのマネジャーが軍を入った事にありがとうと言って、「あなたみたいな人のお陰で、我々はまだ自由があります。」全てのロビーにいる人が聞こえるほど大きい声で言った。
On the train, the ticket checker knew my name and offered to wake me up when we arrived.
In the ice cream store, the store worker held my ice cream upside down and made a stared at me like a crazy lady. Then laughed at my reaction.
At the hotel, I used my military ID and the hotel manager thanked me for my service and said, "If it wasn't for people like you then we wouldn't have our freedom." He said it loud enough that everyone in the lobby could hear too.
最近、大統領の選挙かオランドにあった射撃みたいな事があるから、アメリカに自慢を感じるのが難しい。
ただ、私が生まれたところだけ。
しかし。。。正当に評価しないと。西北の方に働いている人（オレゴン州・ワシントン州）はすばらしくて温かい迎えってくれた事を本当に感謝する。
アメリカならあそこがお勧める。
Recently, with things like the presidential election and Orlando shooting, it's hard to feel any pride in the U.S. It's just the place where I was born.
But...I have to give credit where it's due. The people working in the Northwest (Oregon and Washington State) were amazing and made me feel very, very welcome.
If you go to America, that's where I recommend.
